Darul Ummah centre is keen to provide facilities to women in order to empower them in the society. Darul Ummah Centre hosts two different educational projects which completely run & managed by Sisters.

  • Spiral Sundays - a Weekend School run throughout the year
  • Unwind Summer School - a fascinating & well established 2 Weeks Summer School during Summer Period

Shadwell Employment Project:

This is an Employement Project targeting mainly the disadvantaged from the Bangladeshi and Somali communities, especially women. The primary focus of the project was

  • to address the imbalance in equal opportunity in the fields of education, training and employment as within the framework of the Tower Hamlets Community Plan, Strategic Plan and Regeneration Strategic Objectives.
  • This project, in concept, goes right to the heart of mainstream equality issues that Tower Hamlets Council seeks to address.
  • These are breaking down barriers to improve employment and training opportunities; increasing key skills and employability within disadvantaged groups though advice, guidance, capacity building, and various employment training services and projects.

To facilitate further the empowerment of Women: Darul Ummah Redevelopment Project initiates the following:

Female Only Accommodation:
In the proposed Darul Ummah Redevelopment scheme provides female student accommodation giving the opportunity for women whose faith or social background deter them from residing in mix male and female student accommodation. This reduces their opportunities to take advantage of the world class education facilities available in the capital and help to create equality in the workplace and profession.

Crèche Facilities:
A further important element of the scheme is the porposed crèche facilities - not currently available at the centre. This will enable parents or carers to attend social, training or recreational facilities as well as allowing people to go to work either full-time or part-time knowing that the children they care for are in a safe pleasant and stimulating environment.
