Students Honoured at the Excel Award Ceremony 2011


Da'watul Islam UK & Eire has organised the Excel Award 2011 in partnership with Da'watul Islam Youth to honour individuals for their outstanding achievements on exams in all levels including SATs, GCSEs, A Levels, Degrees, PGCEs and PhDs as well as those who made excellent contribution for the community projects. The key purpose of this Award is to encourage them to do better and inspire all others by recognising their achievements and contributions.

 

Over 100 people gathered on Sat 3rd December at Darul Ummah to celebrate the occasion. Among the guests were present including Brother Hasan Mueenuddin - Vice President, Dawatul Islam UK & Eire; Brother Khalilur Rahman - Secretary General, Da'watul Islam UK & Eire; Brother Hafiz Kamal Ahmed - Qualified Teacher of Maths in Mulberry School; Brother Maswood Ahmed - Qualified Social Worker; Shiekh Abdur Rahman Madani - Prinicipal, Jamiatul Ummah. The Award Ceremony was chaired by Brother Shabbir Kawsar - Deputy Secretary General, Dawatul Islam UK & Eire & the Chair of the Excel Award. Guests presented the Certificates to the pupils, students and graduates. In the speeches, all the guests congratulated the pupils, students & graduates and their parents for their tremendous work they have done to achieve this success in exams including SATs, GCSE, A Levels, and Degrees. Brother Maswood revisited his own life experience by saying that he didn’t have enough privileges when he first came to UK and didn’t even know enough English to complete day to day tasks. He went on saying that, despite the fact he is now qualified social worker and have completed number of qualifications including MSc and MBA. It is your confidence & hard work and support from your family which can take you to the height of the success. Brother Khalilur Rahman praised the success of each individual and in particular he focused into the role of parents and families who helped these students, graduates to achieve their success in their exams. On behalf of the Award Winners, graduate Nazir Hussain Abdin said in his speech that it is very difficult time for every students and in particular for graduates. He went on saying that if you are not prepared for the challenges then you wouldn’t be able to compete in the world job & careers market. He continued saying that working hard, investing time to study and extracurricular activities would help us to be able to compete in the challenging world. He congratulated and thanked Da’watul Islam UK & Eire for the award and encouragement given to him and other students. Nazir Hussain Abdin completed his undergraduate degree in BSc in Mathematics & Finance and achieved First Class and currently he is studying MSc in International Accounting & Finance at Cass Business School, City University London. His proud father was with us to encourage his son for the outstanding performance and track record.

 

The Excel Award also recognised the outstanding work of Emdad Rahman by giving him the Excel Extra Award for Community Work. In his speech, Emdad thanked Da'watul Islam UK & Eire and the Excel Award Team for organising such a beautiful award ceremony where students and community people are recognised for their commitment and dedication to the cause. He went on saying that he is very honoured and pleased to be at this beautiful Award Ceremony to receive the Award. Emdad was awarded the Excel Extra Award for Community Work due to his very colourful and diverse community work commitments: He has been volunteering for many years with young and old alike and with all communities. Emdad has run three London Marathons for charity and for three years has run the British 10k for the homeless at the Whitechapel Mission. He also volunteers there on Christmas day. Emdad is volunteering at the London 2012 Olympics and has been selected as a Team London star by the Mayor of London. He is currently featuring in a London wide poster campaign and in the Daily Metro. He was named Londoner of the day in October 2011. Emdad is a Hafiz and a popular writer, a prolific blogger and writer and apart from writing four books has contributed to: The Asian Liverbird, Memories made in Aston and Iain Dale's book of new Labour sleaze.  He is a published football poet and The Liverpool FC Correspondent for GiveMeFootball.com of the PFA. Emdad has uniquely received two civic awards from this borough. 

 

 

The Chair concluded the Award Ceremony by thanking everyone including the participants, guests, families, friends the Excel Award Team - Monzur, Ahsan, Mahfuz & Humayun for their tremendous work & time which made this Excel Award Successful. 

 

The Excel Award Ceremony was jointly hosted by Humayun, member of Da'watul Islam Youth and Monzur, Excel Award Coordinator.
